Subject title: Vetyr's Sketchbook

I really like the terminator painting. Are those the original colors? Also, how long did that take you to paint? It has the look of something that is done relatively quickly and roughly, but by a masterful hand. I like this type of rough style where the brush strokes are visible. I feel that being able to make a good rough painting without a lot of rendering really shows off the talent of a painter!

Also, props for the auto-rickshaw. :-)

Thank you DrGibbs- the color is sort of original (the ref pic was blue-er and grey-er); and the painting took about 2 hours. As you can probably see, the ref was extremely low res because it's impossible to find anything above 360p for this movie.
First pic is the one I used, second pic is the one I would've used if I didn't have the first.

Some bird sketches (may or may not have been inspired by Neso's stuff)

I love the way you build up form on your figures, especially the second of the dude drawings, how do you do that?

and amazing bird sketches! you can really draw.

I don't think I could watch a whole movie in magenta-vision, but for the portrait/study you did, it looks much cooler than the original shot. It is interesting that although the painting you did is rough, it actually has more detail than the 360p reference. Also, those birds are amazing. :-) So far, I have been focusing on humans, and I'm pretty sure that for anything else I will fall flat on my face.

Honestly, the reason I decided to follow this forum is because of you, Vetyr, as well as Sanguine, Yume, VSTOLL, Ambiguity, Telepurte, and some others that I forget the names of. In addition to Sycra's forum, I looked at cubebrush's forum and conceptart.org. Among them, Sycra's seemed to attract people of amazing skill and style that really inspire me to become better to try to match their level.

Thank you Gibbs; and Joseph- building up form is mostly a matter of varying values and knowing where certain values go (where dark vs. light should be). Takes observation and some studying, and eventually it becomes intuitive!

These portraits are gorgeous, I've never attempted to do them in color so far because I'm afraid of screwing them up too much.

I especially like the last girl with the Litwiks, the colors are really nice.

Any chance the first one is a self-portrait? ;)

These colours are reminding me of Kuvshinov, although I think he uses post-effects.

You're obviously killing it with the portraits and figures, you should start illustrating, or expanding your subject matter in your studies to something less comfort zoney at least. Then again, what do I know? I'm still just posting portraits XD.

That's probably a good idea Ambi ;) I've been studying cars, buildings, and guns a lot recently (I don't upload them here) and they've been a lot of fun. In the meantime, here's a bit of a comfort zone piece.
