Subject title: LK Crown

Hey guys!

My Avatar may or may not look familiar to you. Recently I made a new Youtube channel and so I wanted to start a new Sketchbook and also I decided to take a new name, so that I can completely begin a new chapter with my Artwork.
I hope that no moderator minds that I made a new account, but I didn't see if any rule would forbid that, so I think it should be fine.

I want to only post serious WIPs (work in progress) or finished Artworks here, but not so many Doodles and casual practices.

My Youtube-Channel is
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIYkXr ... /playlists

and my first Artwork-related project was this:

A Talk about Galleys
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkTMs2SJlHw

which was the timelapse (with a little speech) of this one:

The next project was the Creation of the Channel Header.

The Timelapse is here:

And this was the result.

Dark Souls 2 'Ruin Sentinels', I made a thumbnail artwork
The Artwork certainly is not very impressive, but still I like it.
I called it - very cleverly - "Let's ruin Sentinels!!".

haha, I don't really remember the sentinels running away but than again, I probably just wasn't that good at the game.
I like the warships and how you did some research as showcased in the youtube video. :)

Thats because I wasn't there! ;) :D Besides that thanks for feedback.

And here my latest Artwork, which happens to also be from Dark Souls.. because I am playing that and this is my Character in the game.
This is my video-thumbnail for the [blind]-Let's Play now.
I would say for now its finished, but you can criticize it here: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=98834

and probably I will work over it again.

Wow, that's so cool that you're working on a game! I'm curious and excited to see where it goes and how it turns out. Cool character designs, by the way, and I like that landscape - it's very Swiss. :)

Hey Crown! I don't know much about coding but it's great that you're trying to make a game. Seems like a good start to me. ^^

For some time I focused more on programming than improving Artwork now, but I want to rekindle the latter again.
So, I searched for a goal that I would like to try to achieve (and possibly I am aiming way too high beyond hope), but THIS is what I want to become able of making:

Spoiler: show
this
Louis.jpg

and this
Ships_Harbor.jpg

I would be able to spend 3+ hours each day on practicing. What would you guys, especially those, who kind of know what they are doing, advice me to practice and how?

My first problem right now would be the composition or how to set up the whole picture in the very beginning (I read Framed Ink, but it does not really help me).
First I would make thumbnails, and when I then want to proceed to the `real` picture I would have to set up a horizon line and flight points.
How do I then set up the ships, for example, into that grid the right way?
Do I have to know how the ships look like from every angle before I can do this?

Good advice would be much appreciated.

I will just try to recreate those pictures.

First step:
How do I figure out the flight points?
I tried it like this. Is it nearly accurate?

Learn basic perspective theory: Marshall vandruff perspective lectures
Practice drawing basic forms: http://creativeformsketching.blogspot.c ... l/Homework

And continue doing what you're doing now.

Okay! I am at it. I remember Sycra suggesting that too, also he said to speed it up, because he talks a bit slow. :D 12$ sounds very good.

The set up is pretty damn sold if you'd ask me. but you're studying a pretty hardcore image there. :P The colonial-age ships are damn complicated.
Did you consider practicing some easier ships first? something like this first? I think it's a good way to ease your brain into more complicated stuff.

The modern Chinese ship above is much easier to simplify to elementary forms that are easier to draw in perspective. Not so different from a kid playing with boxes to build something.

Notice how in this ship the lines that used to find the vanishing point on the right arn't actually horizontal straights but curved lines, even in just the side view. That is why the vanishing point ended up below the horizon line. If you'd get a top view of the boats, you'd find that they don't just curve in the x- and y-axis but also into the Z-axis. This together just makes at a hard subject to draw in perspective.

I would try the easy things first and slowly upgrade to harder subjects when you get more comfortable. ^^

Normally I am not so interested in modern ships, but you're right, I could rather start with easier models. I will try the ships you suggested.

But for now first step with these ships. No idea if this is a way to go:

Beginning of the other one.
This ones not so much about perspective, but how to color.

Jup the king louis XIV study is coming together nicely and I agree that the fur is looking great. You have good analytical skills if you'd ask me.

When it comes to the ship I think it's a pretty great start. I'm like in that I think the colonial age ships are just cooler than the new ones. Maybe just doing the harder at at once works for you? I'm just kinda brainstorming when I'm typing and am rarely sure of anything so please, always take my words with a grain of salt.

Keep up the good work!
